Meet the Artist: Polly Wilson

You can see it in every teeny weeny footstool, fluffy bedroll and itty bitty bench·Barn Dandy's founder Polly Wilson loves kids. (All children need fun places to play is the simple idea behind her whimsical furniture line that got its start 8 years ago when she uncovered a collection of vintage textiles in her husband's family's 100 year old barn.

Inspired by her fabric find and love of vintage toys and furniture, Wilson began Barn Dandys' earliest production of small chairs and tiny couches in her own Colorado barn. Each custom handmade piece incorporated something old, whether it was an antique spindle or swatch of flea market fabric. The style was vintage and playful, but also sophisticated and appealing to today's design savvy parents. Hence, Wilson and Barn Dandys became known for making (adult furniture for children, a concept embraced by the Warm Biscuit Bedding Co.

Wilson's business has since expanded to accommodate the growing demand for Barn Dandys products. In 2002, she moved production to her Oklahoma ranch and hired a staff of full time craftspeople. When vintage textiles became hard to find and too limited to fulfill her orders, Wilson designed and produced her own line of old-fashioned floral and western prints.

Amidst the growth and expansion, Wilson still maintains her small Oklahoma studio and a production team that's committed to creating furniture that¦s beautiful, whimsical and, most importantly, designed with kids in mind. She and her team aim to create a play place for kids that they'll remember when they have children of their own.
