"If I'm not painting, check my pulse!" quips Vicky Vinson, manager of the Custom Corner, the Warm Biscuit Bedding Co.'s custom furniture division in Skiatook, Oklahoma."No surface is off limits."
Vicky has been a muralist, home painter and even a bookkeeper for her husband's carpentry business, but her true love has always been painting furniture.Adopting old, mismatched chairs she'd find on junk runs to flea markets and yard sales, she began repairing and refinishing them in a fun, quirky style that friends and family dubbed funk-tional. When a local newspaper advertised an opening within the Warm Biscuit Bedding Co. for a painter of children's custom furniture, Vicky's name seemed to be the only thing missing from the job description.
Vicky has happily adopted her skills to the rapidly growing Custom Corner, which offers one-of-a-kind, personalized headboards, side tables, stools, shelves and wastebaskets for kids, her favorite kind of client. Vicky, with the help of her sidekick, Theresa Murillo, oversees every Custom Corner order, making sure that each custom piece is hand-painted and decoupaged according to the customer's specification. "Being in this wonderful, fast-paced studio gives me energy. All the orders coming in, paint flying and kids smiling keeps my pulse beating!" she states.
